Head Injury Prevention

On Aug. 2-6, 2010, during the Operation Lone Star, Zapata County Fire Department along with
the Seven Flags RAC got together and gave away free bicycle helmets to the public who attended. Over 200 helmets were given
away from sizes XS-XL. Adults and chilren were advised to take advantage of this due to the number of head injuries in this
area because of not wearing a helmet. Those who took advantage of this were asked to watch a short film advising them the
proper way of wearing a bicycle helmet and the advantages to wearing one. For now will not be handing out bicycle helmets
until next year hopefully. Soon ZCFD and the Seven Flags RAC will be offering
free information on the prevention of head injuries. This information will help coaches and parents of sport players how to
check for signs of head injuries (such as: concussions, contusion, hematoma, and etc.) and what to do if you ever encounter
these kind of situations. We do need names and at a certain number of coaches in the Zapata area. Feel free to contact
ZCFD through the contact us forum or you can also contact Gaby @ 956 765 9942. Thank You!
